A while ago, I had no clue how to even start a blog, and even though I am still learning, I have learned a lot and wanted to share what I have discovered.
5 things you’ll need when creating your blog:
- Blog platform
- Web hosting
- Have fun creating your blog
- Choose a Niche

Blog platform: 1st Step
You need to choose a platform in order to be able to create your blog. WordPress is one of the most popular platforms used. There are many useful plugins and tools you can use in WordPress to help design your blog seamlessly. For example, you can click and drag designs and templates, and many more exciting features. There are tons of platforms to choose from, such as Blogger and Tumblr but the choice is up to you. Just make sure you do your research to find which one suits your needs.
Web Hosting: 2nd Step
You can either choose a free web hosting service or a paid one. I would recommend a paid one, but again, the choice is up to you. Below are some reasons why I would recommend paying for a web hosting account.
Paid vs. Free Web Hosting –
Free Version Specs:
You won’t be able to get your own domain name. For example, your blog will come out with a web address similar to this – myblog.wordpress.com, myblog.blogspot.com or myblog.tumblr.com. Also, since it’s a free account, your blog can be deleted at anytime without your permission and all of your hard work could be lost in cyberspace. There are many limits as well with free accounts, such as not being able to fully monetize your blog and there are many limits to uploading videos, images, and free themes.
Paid Version Specs:
Just take a look at the cons with the free version and reverse them and you’ll have the paid version. You actually own your domain name, which means you can monetize your blog too (cha-ching!!), and you can choose, if you want, your blog to end in .com, net, .org, etc.
I started using Wealthy Affiliate for my host and domain and love it. If you decide to go with WA, again you will have hosting + domain in one place, and you’ll get a huge percentage off and it’s very reasonably priced in my opinion.
The bonus with wealthy affiliate is that you can start off with a free site and upgrade later if you see fit.
Domain Creation and Hosting: 3rd Step
If you decide to invest into yourself, and pay for your domain, you’ll need to come up with your domain name. For example, my site is called replaceW2Income.com
In case, you aren’t familiar with a domain or host, here is the breakdown:
Think about this as your home address, but for the internet. Example, in order for someone to locate where you live, they would have to choose your street address 123 E. Fake St to find you. A domain is similar but uses a .com, .org, .edu, .gov in order to find your specific address such as eBay.com, Walmart.com, etc, and that’s it.
Simply put, a web host is the service provider that allows your web page to be viewed on the internet. Also, your website will be saved on the hosting site, sort of like saving a word document on the hard drive of your computer.
Instead of using 2 separate companies for your host and domain, why not combine them into one easy place to access? Again, that is why I choose WA for both my domain and web hosting. Not only is it very easy to use, but it is also inexpensive. This means that, it wouldn’t put a dent in your bank account. You can start out for FREE to have your host and domain bundled together, and you can’t beat that!
Time to Create: 4th Step
If you pay for your blog, you have more freedom to add and change your themes. You may customize your theme and switch it out as you choose.
You may want to consider keeping your theme related to what you and your blog is about.
Niche Time: 5th Step
There are tons of blogs out there and tons of themes. You may want to consider sticking to a specific niche, when creating a blog, and master that arena first, then expand as you see fit.
We are all constantly learning and don’t worry if your blog isn’t perfect. Heck, look at mine, I had no idea on how to create a blog, but 1 week before I decided to write my blog, I made the decision to just do it, and learn as I go! The amazing thing about Wealthy Affiliate is that you have guided step by step instructions advising you on how to create your blog. And with a community of experienced support waiting to help you out in any way that they can, you’ll have to see it to believe it.

My point is don’t wait until the moment is perfect, because you’ll be waiting forever and never accomplish anything. Just go for it and continue to learn and grow through experience. Experience helps you learn & learning helps you grow! Never stop learning!!!
